2015 was a very special year for Design International, as the architecture practice celebrated their 50th anniversary. Growing across the globe over the last 5 decades, the practice is now well established with headquarters in London, and further offices in Shanghai and Milan.
After a very successful MAPIC in November 2015, the team then headed to New York City for the ICSC National Dealmaking Forum to exhibit before taking a well-deserved break over the Christmas period. The new year started with a bang seeing the celebrations of the growth of the group in Asia, with the team moving into a larger office in Shanghai. With the successful operation in Shanghai, run by Design Director Kuncara Wikacsana, the group has gone from strength to strength.
DI is also becoming more and more active in the Middle East, working very closely with Lulu Group International on several retail projects. At MAPIC 2015, Design International hosted a breakfast briefing with Lulu Group International where they presented new projects Avenues Mall, Silicon Oasis, and Avenues Mall, Sharjah, to members of the press. Since then, the pair have also started working together on various other projects in India and Abu Dhabi.
When asked on what he considered the most significant milestone for the group, CEO Davide Padoa commented, "There are quite a number of projects that we feel very close to, that opened up a new chapter for the company. Starting with recent projects, one that made a big difference to us was Morocco Mall in Casablanca that we opened four years ago in December 2011."
The Morocco Mall project in particular, has underlined the ability of Design International to pioneer retail in new countries which is what has made the practice prosper over the past 50 years.
