The Extension of 'I Gigli' Shopping Centre has finally opened22 January 2021
Eurocommercial developer and property investors of many successful commercial projects in Italy and abroad gives the entire sector a sign of hope and renewal. The extension of the 'I Gigli' Shopping Centre which is a historic mall strategically located in Campi Bisenzio near Florence has been inaugurated. The renovation project carried out by Design International is an extension of the existing shopping centre which connects the two squares of Corte Tonda and Corte Lunga on the first floor ultimately improving internal circulation and providing new ways to visit and for new services.
The extension is named “Il Cammin de’ Gigli” in honour of the great Florentine poet Dante Alighieri and was conceived from the conceptual idea of the hanging garden. The project which covers an area of about 2,700 sqm proposes a new pathway positioned on the islands of the existing shops creating an implied elevated town which transforms itself from a simple place for shopping into a place for sharing, intending to encourage social connections and the integration of the areas.
Paolo Bianchini, Design Manager of Design International explains; "These areas, surrounded by green offer new services for the public, spaces to relax, co-working areas, restaurants, and a large playground area for children's entertainment featuring the “Giglisauri”, the key attraction of the intervention. With the integration of the different service and entertainment functions, the renovation aims to bring added value to the current commercial offer. Some of the essential elements of the new design are the use of natural materials, the integration of greenery, urban design and the feeling of open space, as well as a series of technical lighting interventions to achieve a variety of scenic effects".
